Gumo said it was a common practice for government to allocate parcels of land to private developers if parastals failed to utilize them.
“The Government always allocates plots of lands to various parastatals, but if they are unable to develop it, it is surrendered. Am sure that is what happened to Weston Hotel land,” he told a press conference on Sunday, July 6, 2015.
The former regional development minister also revealed that he had interests in the parcel of land along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi.
He claimed that Kenya Civil Aviation Authority surrendered it to the government and he applied for it but the DP must have been luckier.
Ruto, who publicly admitted to having interests in the hotel, has been issued with a15 day notice to appear in court over the matter.
Gumo has differed with Opposition politicians who have called for the demolition of the hotel and have the land surrendered back to the government. He urged them to offer constructive criticism and should not appear to be on a fault-finding mission.
