A new study by Consumer Insight has revealed that Kenyan women love money, good jobs, nice houses and quality education than having a good family. On a priority list, family actually comes last.

The study that was carried out in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nyeri, Kisumu and Eldoret, indicates that majority of Kenyan ladies want to be independent and just very few of them can submit to men.

The study also revealed the situation of marriages in Kenya by interviewing   women who have been married for over 5 years.

Apparently, women who got married through “come we stay” emerged as the happiest of all. They were followed by those who got married through customary law and then those who wedded at the Attorney-General’s chambers came third.

Those who wedded in church emerged as the least happy. The study shows happiness in Church marriages has been going down over the years.

The findings also reveal that the Kenyan man is now likely to meet a woman who proposes to him, as 20% of those polled said that they had no problem seeking a man’s hand in marriage.

According to Kenyatta University sociologist, Bernard Munyao Muya, many church-wedded couples are unhappy because the churches are still stuck in the rigid concept of marriage keeping you together till death do you part.

“This church faithful will stay in an unhappy marriage because they have been taught that there isn’t another option.” He says.
