Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, was the first opposition leader in Africa to congratulate newly sworn in Nigeria President, Mohammadu Buhari, after he won the March 31 Presidential Elections.

In his congratulatory message, Raila, who is also the CORD leader, said Buhari’s win demonstrated that even the incumbent can be flushed out of office in free and democratic elections.

He also said Nigeria’s Presidential Elections show the transformation of democracy in African countries.

But despite sending congratulatory messages to Buhari, the Nigerian Government refused to invite Raila Odinga for the swearing-in ceremony of Buhari today.

According to sources, Buhari only invited President Uhuru Kenyatta and his wife, Margret Kenyatta.

Nigerian embassy officials said the former PM was not in the list of Kenyans who were invited for the swearing in ceremony of General Buhari.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is being represented to the function by his Deputy, William Ruto.
