Somalia-based extremists, Al Shabaab, have claimed responsibility for the Tuesday morning massacre of 14 Christians in Mandera County.

Speaking on Al Shabaab’s main broadcaster, Radio Andulus, the militants Spokesman, Sheikh Abdiaziz Abu Musabo, confirmed that they are responsible for the deadly attack in Mandera that left 14 people dead and 11 seriously wounded.

Abdiaziz said that they killed more than a dozen Christians, mainly non-locals, who were working in the nearby quarry and described the massacre as a ‘Ramadhan gift’ to Kenya.

The Al Shabaab pledged more attacks on Kenyan soil unless and until President Uhuru Kenyatta withdraws Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) from Somalia.

The militants attacked a residential building, which houses construction workers, in Mbuzi Village at around 2 am on Tuesday morning and killed its occupants using grenades and gunfire.

Many victims were among those who survived a similar attack last year in December, where over 36 quarry workers were mercilessly butchered by the militants.
