Kenya’s social justice and tech blogger Robert Alai who spent a 12-hour cold night at Muthaiga police station has this morning been released after the Director of Public Prosecutions recalled his file and ordered he pay Ksh 50,000 to the police.

Top pundit Phil Wesonga says ” Either a weak case, or it is likely someone fears an Alai trial will expose dirty secrets on Langata Primary and Ruai landgrabs and therefore looking for an exit option after failing to intimidate blogger Alai through police arrest and arbitrary detention”.

The money paid to the police will not be used to build good houses or improve the health scheme for police officers. Alai was charged with causing anger and annoyance to Julie Gichuru’s husband – an alleged land grabber – over the shameless grabbing of a school play field and a sewer line in Nairobi.

Land grabbers don’t want kids to play.

Land grabbers don’t want fecal matter to be disposed.

Land grabbers are powerful here.

Julie’s husband, Antony Gichuru, was seen hovering around CID headquarters moments before the blogger, who had voluntarily heeded to a call by the CID to record statements, was locked up and detained for the night.

While Alai is still being held at Muthaiga, as friends and well-wishers collect the sh. 50,000, it has not escaped observers how the police, prosecutors and magistrates are colluding with grabbers to hide the truth from Kenyans, for arresting and charging an outspoken blogger like Alai servers to deter others from raising issues with runaway abuse of rule of law and return to corruption by Kenya’s elites.
