| Raila Odinga |
Raila, who was addressing journalists after meeting the Luo Council of Elders, said Ruto was one of his key lieutenants in Rift Valley during the 2007 General Election and he had a right to defend him.
Minutes after his address, Ruto welcomed Raila‘s offer but once again insisted he was innocent and would soon be vindicated.
“The Deputy President welcomes Hon Raila Odinga’s offer to testify, however, his conscience remains clear. He’s innocent and in a short while he will be vindicated,’’ Ruto said in a statement posted by his press team.
But is Ruto trying to fix Raila Odinga at the ICC?
According to a source who requested anonymity, Ruto’s request for Raila Odinga to testify at the ICC is a calculated move by Ruto and Sang’s defence team to have Raila at The Hague to respond to some queries raised by the Prosecutor.
Some of the allegations raised by the Prosecutor include Joshua Sang inciting ODM supporters in Eldoret to attack buses ferrying ballot boxes before elections day but in his initial testimony, Sang said it’s Raila Odinga who raised that "alarm" in studio during his live interview.
He went on to play a video clip in court of Raila making those allegations and Sang just repeating them and asking for confirmation.
Should Raila go to testify, that clip will be played again. Sang’s lawyer, Katwa Kigen, will ask him and he will confirm that he made the allegations and not Sang.
That is how Raila may find himself in trouble!
