Nairobi Senator Mike Mbivi Sonko has said he is ‘not worried’ about Daily Post ‘polls’ which have consistently put Devolution cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru ahead of him in the race for Nairobi gubernatorial seat in next elections.
The polls, which allows people to vote for their prefered choices, saw Waiguru trounce both Sonko and current Gov. Dr Evans Kidero. However, Sonko now says he will stick to his own game plan and let Waiguru win in social media and websites.
Several close aides to the ‘super’ senator who spoke to this writer claim Waiguru still has a lot to learn about Nairobi politics, and Daily Post is the least of places to get such knowledge.
“They are ‘voting’ for her from their upper class offices in Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, New York and Washington DC and all these places so she gets the impression she is ahead, but that is the mistake Peter Kenneth made: no Nairobi voters live in New York,” retorted the aide, who requested anonymity because of his close relationship with the office of the devolution secretary.
Another Sonko close associate told this writer to keep in mind the fact that Waiguru had taken Daily Post to court over a slanderous article and that the website is just bidding for her, aware of the ‘shit’ they are in currently.
“They want to please her. She took them to court,” he claimed. Waiguru has won first round of a case in which she wants google to give the details of the owners of Daily post to facilitate a case she has filed against the website.
According to handlers of the senator, they are keen to eat into disgruntled ODM supporters disappointed by Governor Evans Kidero’s ‘elitism’ more than concentrating on Waiguru.
Maintaining the ODM/CORD support which he got in 2013 is important for him, they say, as that will give him a headstart within Jubilee during party primaries.
The aides claim Senator Sonko will be better serve the interest of Nairobians than Gov.
“It is easier for an ODM youth to meet and engage the senator than the governor, even at personal level. Sonko may not be supporting Raila Odinga but he definitely has no issues with ODM supporters in Nairobi,” he said.
The Nairobi Senator has also dismissed allegations that he printed T-shirts to be distributed in Fidel’s funeral, saying his personal friendship with Fidel would not allow him to play politics in his funeral.
