President Uhuru Kenyatta cancelled his flight to the United States due to what the Government described as increased “military activity” in the Yemen’s airspace.

His Presidential Jet had to turn back to JKIA on Thursday even before reaching the Yemen airspace.

Impeccable sources said the President was concerned about his safety and that of his crew and cancelled his trip to the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles where he was to market Kenya as one of the fastest growing economies and an attractive foreign investment destination.

Security reports from Yemen show that Saudi Arabian war planes pounded Houthi militiamen and military bases with at least 20 air strikes throughout Yemen on Thursday.

Military sources said the Saudi Arabian Air Force declared the Yemen Airspace a no fly zone on Thursday and that is why Uhuru’s jet had to come back.

The Saudi Government spokesman said forces would continue to target movements of the Iran-allied Houthi militia and it was not safe for commercial flights to fly through the region.

The Saudi military is using the Yemen airspace to advance on Houthi rebels and on Thursday, they were busy bombing their tactical units and fighters on battlefields because the group is fighting supporters of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in six Central and Southern Provinces.
