Over the weekend, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), in collaboration with security personnel, recovered an assortment of weapons of mass destruction when they raided Al Shabaab hideouts in Garissa County.<br />
<br />
The weapons included 7 pistols, 7 grenades, 15 magazines and 20 rounds of ammunition.<br />
<br />
Addressing the press yesterday when he displayed the cache of weapons, North Eastern Regional Coordinator, Mohamud Saleh, also confirmed the arrest of several Al Shabaab terrorists of various nationalities during the operation.<br />
<br />
He noted that the operation was based on intelligence and tips from members of the public that enabled security agencies track the criminals down.<br />
<br />
Saleh noted that the officers were pursuing more Al Shabaab suspects who escaped their dragnet and that very soon they will be caught.<br />
<br />
The operation also led to the arrest of seven Tanzanians who were trying to cross over to Somalia to join Al Shabaab, as well as 2 Al-Shabaab brides, a Kenyan and a Tanzanian, who were arrested just before they crossed over to the war-torn country.<br />

Blogger Kahawa Tungu has chronicled how a police chopper was leased to a private individual even as Garissa University students waited to be rescued for over 7 hours. The chopper is said to have been leased one Arthur Olwal, a close relative of retired army general Ishmael Opande.<br />

The commandant of Kenya Police Airwing is on the spot as details emerge that a regional arms dealer was using a Kenya Police aircraft while the GSU Recce squad commandos were stranded in Nairobi for 5 hours without transport.<br />

While the Inspector general of Police is being given reports that the plane went to collect relatives of Rogers Mbithi (Airwing Commandant), details emerge that the plane was actually being used to run errands for one Arthur Olwal who is known to be a close relative of retired Lieutenant General Daniel Ishmael Opande.<br />
<br />
The plane, a police Cessna 208B registration 5Y-POL flew to Mombasa in a private mission under Arthur Olwal.<br />
<br />
Arthur, through his company called Omnex Trading, is a known supplier of spare parts to the Kenya Police Airwing. The company operates from the 10th floor of NSSF owned Bruce House. The company was once mentioned in the inquiry into the death of Ministers George Saitoti and Joshua Orwa Ojode as the supplier of a replacement rotor blade system for a grounded Mi-17s which had only two flight-hours left of its lifetime. The spare part was for plane registration number 5Y-EDM and was supplied at a cost of Sh13 million.<br />

Interior Ministry spokesman, Mwenda Njoka, even confirmed the purchase to Daily Nation, adding that there was a tax fee of Sh 3million which was paid to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Njoka also claimed that the established cartels and networks at the airwing are not making it efficient.<br />
<br />
The lease to Arthur Olwal was verbally authorised by the commandant but was not documented in the authorisation sheet as required. This has left staff at the Kenya Police Airwing based at Wilson Airport confused and demanding that their bosses do things in the right manner.<br />
<br />
In July 2014, one of the helicopters made an emergency landing in Eldama Ravine while Deputy President William Ruto was on board. Others on board theRussian made Mi-17 helicopter were Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi, Kinango MP Gonzi Rai, Baringo Central MP Sammy Mwaita, Hellen Sambili, William Cheptumo, Baringo County Women Representative Grace Kiptui and Mosses Lessonet of Eldama Ravine.<br />

While the Inspector General is being told that the helicopter was on an instruction flight, details have emerged about the mysterious flight to Mombasa. Now the airwing boss Rogers Mbithi has decided to take blame claiming that the flight went to pick his daughter-in-law and child from Mombasa.<br />
<br />
Senior Superintendent James Kabo and an Inspector Mutai piloted the aircraft with registration 5Y-POL. The People Daily and Daily Nation knows that the helicopter was being unlawfully used but they have refused to reveal the details as they might embarrass senior Office of the President officials.

Fears of the government secretly disposing off the bodies of Garissa University students have been raised after a white lorry was seen ferrying remains of badly damaged people into the Lang’ata cemetery, Nairobi.<br />
<br />
The clandestine activity is said to be going on early in the wee hours of the morning. Last Friday, confusion hit the identification of the students bodies as different government agencies gave different figures for the number of students killed.<br />
<br />
While the official narrative has it that 147 students were killed, independent sources claim as many as 300 students may have been killed in the gristly attack.<br />
<br />
The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) claimed over 160 students are yet to be accounted for outside the 147 the government has claimed were killed during the attack. This would bring the number to 307, which is closer to the 317 figure that an unauthorised source with Red Cross is said to have revealed.<br />
<br />
The lorry was spotted by multiple people and finally seen dumping the bodies at Lang’ata cemetery.<br />
<br />

To add to the general confusion, Moi University Students Organisation (Muso) secretary-general, Mr Titus Safari, said 59 of his colleagues had not been accounted for.<br />
<br />
Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, addressing the press in the company of a large group of Cabinet secretaries, said 613 students had been rescued, along with 50 staff of the university.<br />
<br />
Since it is already established that 142 students were killed and 815 were enrolled at the college, this would raise troubling questions about the whereabouts of some 60 students unless they had left the campus before the attack which was carried out on the eve of the Easter weekend.<br />
<br />
Government yet to comment on these new allegations. However, Kenyans on social media have started demanding answers over the ‘unclaimed bodies’ using yet another hashtag: #UnClaimedBodies<br />

President Uhuru’s condolence speech was rejected by angry mourners who accused the president of ‘dancing’ over the bodies of the killed students. This was during the burial of second year student Priscah Auma Wayodi in Siaya County.<br />

Pandemonium broke when Siaya County Deputy Commissioner Peter Jumwa stood to read the speech.<br />
<br />
Area MCA then stood up and stopped the national government official from reading the speech, asking him to tell the President to first bring those who killed the students to book, some whom senior politicians in his own party and government have revealed to know.<br />
<br />
The MCA was alluding to comments by Jubilee majority leader Aden Duale who sensationally claimed to know the attackers.<br />
<br />
Commissioner Jumwa, sensing the mood of the mourners, decided not to run afoul of it.<br />
<br />
“I have decided not to read it but I will present it to the family later,” he said.<br />
<br />
The burial proceeded without hitches, with a survivor, Christine Anyango, recalling what the militants said as they shot students.<br />
<br />
“Tell your President to withdraw KDF from Somalia and ensure that North Eastern belongs to Muslims. Garissa must also be part of Somalia and not Kenya,” Christine quoted the militants.<br />
<br />
Ms Priscah Auma Wayodi is among the over 100 students who were killed in Garissa terrorist attacks. She was in second year when she was killed by the terrorists. The university has since been closed and the remaining students transfered to Moi University Main Campus in Eldoret.

Embattled National Assembly Majority Leader, Aden Duale, has pulled another controversy barely a week after insinuating that he knows Al Shabaab sympathisers in the country and not long after he called for negotiation with the Somali-based militants.<br />
<br />
Speaking during an interview with the Nairobian, Duale warned the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and police not to set foot in Garissa or Eastleigh to harass innocent Kenyans of Somali origin in the name of fighting terror.<br />
<br />
Asked if he supports the crackdown on terror in the country after the massacre of 147 students of Garissa University last week, Duale said he will never support any crackdown on terror that targets Muslims, especially Somalis.<br />
<br />
“No, I will never support a situation where the security forces harass innocent people whether in Garissa or Nairobi’s Eastleigh. The operation to weed out Al Shabaab should be guided by intelligence and not blanket condemnation and ethnic profiling of Muslims,” said Duale.<br />
<br />
Duale, who is also the Garissa Town MP, is not new to controversy and is not ashamed of defending Muslims even if they are suspected terrorists. Last year, he caused a stir when he vehemently opposed Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government’s crackdown on Al Shabaab terrorists in Eastleigh saying he will defend Muslims to the end because his religion comes first.

The Jubilee Government has defended its move to give the elite Recce Unit an additional allowance of Ksh500 after successfully killing all the four terrorists who had butchered 147 students at Garissa University in just 12 minutes.<br />
<br />
Speaking yesterday, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Spokesman, Manoah Esipisu, said that Recce officers have their own salary and that the sh500 was just a favour and not a right.<br />
<br />
Besides, Recce Commandos were just doing their job which they swore to do and for which they are paid a salary from public coffers.<br />
<br />
“The work of the Recce officers was to save lives and that allowance was not a priority at that moment. Besides, they were just doing the work they swore to do and for which they are paid,” said Esipisu.<br />
<br />
Esipisu was responding to accusations that Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government was killing the morale of the dedicated Recce Commandos who felled the terrorists by paying them a paltry sh500 allowance after a job well done.<br />
<br />
The Government had promised to pay the Recce Unit and additional sh3, 000 risk allowance but they only received sh500 after neutralizing the Garissa terrorists.

Al Shabaab terrorists may be in for a rude shock next time they attack a university or school in Kenya like they did last week in Garissa.<br />
<br />
The Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, was contemplating introducing military training in schools as part of the education curriculum.<br />
<br />
This was revealed by a senior Government official who said that the President and his Deputy were considering the proposal as a way of addressing insecurity in schools and keeping students safe.<br />
<br />
The idea was supported by several leaders, among them Gongoni Ward Representative, Alfred Kiraga, who said that the education system should encompass a mandatory paramilitary training similar to that in Israel and other countries to make the youth patriotic and for self defence to avoid a Garissa-like situation where 147 students were massacred like flies by only 4 terrorists.<br />
<br />
“There is need to make changes in the country’s education curriculum to make it mandatory for all citizens to undergo paramilitary studies. This will address security concerns our country is faced with,” said Kiraga.<br />
<br />
If the proposal goes through, there would be no need for Recce Squad in case the Al Shabaab attack a school in Kenya.

Abdirahim is a university of Nairobi Law graduate and is described by a person who knows him well as a “brilliant upcoming lawyer”. Before his admission to the University of Nairobi where he studied Law LLB he was a student at WAMY High School and scored an A- in KCSE in 2007 according to one of his teachers<em style="box-sizing: border-box;"> “He is the man in stripped shirts. He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2013”</em> a source based in Mandera known to Abdirahim<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />and family told me. “He is the son of <span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Chief Daqara”</span> he concluded Abdullahi Daqara is the Chief of Bulla Jamhuri in Mandera county.</div>
