For the starters, this was the guy who used to attack comrades using an axe leaving the victim for the dead.<br /> <br /> But what has never came to light is who Mashoka was, despite all the investigation and ghost vigilantes groups formed to reveal this ‘killer incognito’.<br /> <br /> However a few years back when I was still a student there, my curiosity got the better of me, driving me to initiate undercover investigations.<br /> <br /> I spoke to several top notch administrators, among them the staff at Room 31. Ok, I am sure you’re wondering which room is this? NO? If you happened to be a student who cared to stand up for your rights and others, you definitely know this is the security grilling room. But I digress.<br /> <br /> I shockingly learnt that ‘Mashoka thing’ was an inside job. He was He was one of the ‘men in green’. You understand now why arresting him was a nightmare? who would have guessed that a security man was the dreaded Mashoka?<br /> <br /> He was receiving the orders from the Chief security Officer then. Major.<br /> <br /> Madhoka’s atrocities provided Major with a justification to why many security men needed to be employed. The unsuspecting VC, as always, gave a nod to this in his quest to see Mashoka ‘arrested’. Major consequently brought all his villagemates to Moi and hundreds of green men got jobs. The Mashoka attacks subsequently came to a halt.<br /> <br /> See how Selfish interests made the students victims? Some escaping death by a whisker. Others still bearing axe marks on their bodies, a stark reminder of their painful ordeals.<br /> <br /> Years later, the university would find out Major’s dirty tricks. But surprisingly the administration did not bother to even open charges on the man. All it cared about were the millons the institution was paying to ‘ghost’ security men. In a desperate attempt to appear cleaning the closet, he was transferred to Rivatex after a few months of a compulsory leave. (In public organisations, however much the crime/incompetence, you can never be fired. Re designation is the term). Villagers after this transfer almost demonstrated claiming victimisation of their ‘son’ but after assurance from top notch administrators that the ‘status quo remains’ they kept calm. Major later resigned over frustrations at Rivatex.<br /> <br /> All the stories and experiences that came my way as a student writer and a student leader taught me one thing; Never to take things from a prima facie angle, And that there’s always a political angle to every single happening in Moi Uni.<br /> <br /> For Charity’s murder, I donno the angle but I wouldn’t dismiss the existence of one based on the past.<br /> <br /> Time will tell.

I stopped dating several guys at the same time when I mixed up WhatsApp messages and sent the right guy the wrong message.<br /> <br /> Yeah, it gets crazy, when you have four balls in the air (no pun). Juggling men is not my forte. You are at a coffee shop waiting for one, and you have to text the other to tell him you are at your niece’s ‘Parent’s Day’ so that he doesn’t bother you.<br /> <br /> Anyway, things got very ugly. Two former childhood friends are now not on talking terms because of me.  We all make mistakes.<br /> <br /> Today’s piece though is dedicated to all the men in my life. I am talking about the constant men who are always in my life at any one given time. They change with time and season. Many have filled these spaces and vacated to move on to other things (or other girls). But the positions and roles remain the same.<br /> <br /> 1.  The one that got away:  He is the man that my parents absolutely loved because he seemed good for me. You know, the man that my father threw hints about now and then, trying to nudge me into dating him, but I didn’t really love him? That guy.<br /> <br /> The guy that was always there for me when I run around with cuds who broke my heart and I would run to his shoulder to cry on? The good guy, the one with a decent job and seemed like the perfect husband and father to my children, but I was too blind to see it? Yes, that guy.<br /> <br /> He got married last December. And by the time I realised that he could have been the one for me, he had already started dating this nice girl from Kirinyaga who wears long skirts and cooks better than me. Damn! I have tears in my eyes. So I will stop there. All the best man, you know yourself.<br /> <br /> 2. The friend without benefits: I find the ‘Friends-with-benefits’ arrangement devilish. I mean, why would you just be with someone for ‘that’? Anyway, in my life, I have that one good, loyal guy friend who is my friend without benefits.<br /> <br /> That man friend we have been through thick and thin together. Internship. First salaries. First house hunting. That good guy whom everyone thinks we have a thing going on but he is just a good friend. I know ‘he is just a friend’ is a threadbare cliché, but this guy really is just a friend. With a girlfriend, who happens not to be me.<br /> <br /> I am okay with that since he is not my type and I not his type anyway. I have seen girlfriends come, give me the evil eye, hate me, get envious and go, leaving me there. That friend who is your regular lunch partner. Yes, that guy friend.<br /> <br /> Thanks for being the one I call when I have car problems or need to be picked from the airport. Thanks for being the friend who would leave everything hanging, just for a girl who is just a friend.<br /> <br /> 3. The bad boy: I have a penchant for men who are not good for me. The one who will never commit. The one who will hurt me, I know it, and I am still in it.Why? You ask? Because I love covert, dangerous, almost fanatical relationships that will get me into trouble.<br /> <br /> The ones that come into my life with a tide of euphoria, a rhapsody of illicit romance and blissful utopia that winds into a tragic end. That is my kind of thing. My hamartia. My fatal flaw.Something about forbidden alliances that quickens my heartbeat. A cunning kitten like me thrives on stealthy dalliances.<br /> <br /> So I will always have this guy, who I know dad would never approve of. Mother would fast for days if she found out. And it feels so good when I am with him, adrenaline flows through my veins like a gushing river bursting the moral and logical banks within me. But I don’t care. I feel like I am downhill on a bicycle that I cannot control. I love it.<br /> <br /> 4. The good one: He is good for me but I am not good for him. He ticks all the boxes. He is single. Age appropriate (less than a decade older). Nice job. Visionary. Wants to settle down. Well read. My father would smile with approval when I mention him.<br /> <br /> The sad bit is that I am not good for him. He is too normal; bordering boring. He doesn’t make my young blood rush with excitement. He doesn’t push my intellectual boundaries. He is brilliant, but not witty. He is interesting, but not funny.<br /> <br /> I am no good for this man because I will hurt him. I will get bored like a child does with a new toy and toss him. Mbarire and Dorothy have not impeached anybody to warrant Wambora to display their panties in public. You can also use digital space to sniff, spot and create a business opportunity or exploit new frontiers for investment. My village mate and friend Kabu Simon and his best half Sarah Kabu have used social media to create a great enterprise that is now BONFIRE ADVENTURES AND EVENTS. Yet another friend Dennis Itumbi has exploited social media to create his own unique and unparalleled brand as a blogger.<br /> <br /> 3. You can also use social media to promote your great sense of self by posting updates and pictures of the house you live in; the car you drive, the clothes you wear, the school/university you attend(ed), what you do daily, the towns you visit, the kind of food you eat and of course the “important” human beings you meet in ordinary life. That is still something. My High School Social Ethics Teacher used to say many a times that, “modesty is not a deficiency” and that the opposite is also true!<br /> <br /> 4. You may also use media to publish and promote racial, ethnic, tribal and religious bigotry. That is also something. That may just make you an MCA, MP, Senator or even Governor one day. In Kenya all things are possible. Luckily, the fairly lethargic National Cohesion and Integration Commission is ever in permanent comatose. Unfortunately the digital footprints you leave on social media will follow you everywhere. Not everybody is that naïve.<br /> <br /> 5. You can also use this media foolishly and talk about your preferred political demi-god; other men and women, their political parties, ideas and beliefs every day. That is dumb, very amateurish, cheap and petty politics. If you think you matter so much to your friends or even to the men and women you talk about, and the parties they have formed and promoted with their own money, just form and fund your own political party, promote it and invite people to join. You may just become the next village/county/regional point man or woman. That will be a great ego trip for every political wannabe in social media. I suggest you consult Peter Kenneth before you embarking on this venture.<br /> <br /> 6. You can also seek to use this space to lament and complain about everything above the earth and below the sun; government, police, matatu drivers, politicians, neighbours, pastors, banks, service providers, schools, colleges, etc EXCEPT YOURSELF. That is still something. Perhaps viewing everything in this world through the prism of negativity and pessimism is now a full time job, unlike minding your own business.<br /> <br /> 7. You may elect to use cyber space as an unpaid amateur journalist and parrot about “breaking news”; people, accidents, sports events (especially EPL) and other things which your friends & followers can also read for themselves. Finally you may also appoint to use this space to tell us how many affairs you have had; the men and women in your life; the number of heartbreaks you have had and who cheated or is cheating on you; who is having illicit amorous horizontal or vertical congress with who, how and where.
