Transport PS Eng John Mosonik is in hot soup and he’s facing legal action after he revived a past case where Kenya National Highways Authority officials attempted to extort Kshs 30,000 from Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s driver.

Eng Mosonik is reported to have claimed that Sonko and his entourage stormed Mtwapa police station brandishing guns and demanding the release of a water tanker, which was ferrying water to his Vipingo home after it was allegedly impounded for overloading.

According to our sources the incident happened on the 23rd of December in 2014 and police chiefs have read mischief in Eng Mosonik’s statement since the matter was never reported because the KENHA officials are said to have demanded the bribe from Sonko’s tanker drivers who had gone for the third trip of water.

An agitated Sonko has now promised to move to court and sue the PS for claiming that he harassed his officials.

“ Eng Mosonik is abetting corruption and I even suspect the KENHA officials are following his orders of harassing motorists and extorting money from them. This must come to an end and the PS should be ready to face me in Court. We will also summon him to appear before the Senate Transport and Infrastructure Committee where I am a member,” said Sonko while speaking to a local daily.

According to Sonko’s senior aide the KENHA officials flagged down the tanker demanding for a bribe of Kshs 10,000 for each of the 3 trips it had made. The aide wonders how a tanker carrying 10,000 liters of water can carry excess weight yet it’s it’s designed and sealed to carry a maximum of 10,000 liters. Unless you put another tanker on top of the one authorized to carry the allowed that weight.

Police officers at Mtwapa Police station have dismissed reports that Sonko is under probe over the incident. Efforts to reach the Senator for a comment on the matter were not successful.

Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter is currently being probed over his Hollywood like attack at Gilgil weighbridge where he nearly punched the officials for impounding a truck belonging to URP nominated MP Sonia Kour Birdi. Ends.
