Secretary to the cabinet Francis Kimemia may have been dropped from President Uhuru’s cabinet because of careless talk, also termed as ‘political hubris’ and arrogance.
Kimemia recently sensationally claimed he would have saved the 147 students who lost their lives in Garissa had his advise been sought. This is despite the fact that it was his – together with Iringo – costly mistakes which led to the bungled response to Westgate terror attack.
Kimemia was reported in the media saying the ‘new guys’ in government ought to ask him how to deal with terror, a comment which did not go down well with President Uhuru and the new power wielders around him.
“Having been in charge of security . . . I think we need to do more. Nothing like this ever happened when I was in charge of security. We don’t need to keep losing our young people like this. We need people in public service to act on it. For those in security offices, they can fall back on us because we are still here to serve the country. We still have institutional memory in this,” Kimemia said.
In the new appointments, President Uhuru has promoted interior principal secretary Monica Juma as secretary to the cabinet to take over from Kimemia.
