President Uhuru Kenyatta’s flight to Dubai was cancelled on Thursday after the plane carrying him experienced navigation challenges in Yemen airspace.
According to his spokesman, Manoah Esipisu, President Uhuru left Nairobi on Thursday evening on board his official Kenya Air Force plane destined for Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, where he was due to connect via a commercial flight to Los Angeles.
Isipisu said on reaching the Yemen airspace, the Presidential Jet experienced navigation challenges and the pilot decided to return to Kenya.
“Following reports of increased military activity in Yemen, there was a challenge on the routing leading to a decision to turn back. The President touched the ground at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11.42 pm,” Isipisu said in a statement to the Press.
The President was on his way to the United States where he was scheduled to address a business forum at Milken Institute California.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame was also among those invited to the forum
