International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, on Monday opposed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s request to attend his Status Conference through a video link.<br />
<br />
In a statement to Trial Chamber V (b) judges, Bensouda said the question of whether to permit Uhuru to attend the conference by video link is a matter for the Chamber’s discretion adding that the reasons given were not adequate.<br />
<br />
However, Bensouda said she is not opposed to the rescheduling of the October 8 Status Conference but that the new date should be as soon as possible.<br />
<br />
"The Prosecution observes only that no clear reasons for attendance by video link, rather than in person, are advanced by the defence, other than the accused’s status and the distance he would have to travel. The Chamber may consider that these alone do not represent reasons to excuse him from attendance which would be required of any other accused person,” Bensouda said.<br />
<br />
Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta, through his defence team requested the ICC judges to excuse him from attending the Status Conference.<br />
<br />
In his request, Uhuru cited two State engagements in Kampala, Uganda, scheduled on October 8 and 9 and requested the Judges to allow him use a video link to appear or reschedule the Status Conference on a later date.<br />
<br />
It is not clear whether the ICC Judges will accept Uhuru’s request.<br />

Two Ebola patients, who died of the virus in separate communities in Nimba county in the West African nation of Liberia have reportedly resurrected.<br />
<br />
The NewDawn reports that the victims, both females, believed to be in their 60s and 40s respectively, died of the Ebola virus recently in Hope Village Community and the Catholic Community in Ganta, Nimba. But to the amazement of residents and onlookers on Monday, the deceased reportedly regained life in total disbelief.<br />
It was gathered that the late Dorris Quoi of Hope Village Community and the second victim only identified as Ma Kebeh, said to be in her late 60s, were about to be taken for burial when they resurrected.<br />
<br />
Ma Kebeh had reportedly been in door for two nights without food and medication before her alleged death. Nimba county has had bazaar news of Ebola cases with a native doctor from the county, who claimed that he could cure infected victims, dying of the virus himself last week. News of the resurrection of the two victims has reportedly created panic in residents of Hope Village Community and Ganta at large, with some citizens describing Dorris Quoi as a ghost, who shouldn't live among them.<br />
<br />
Since the Ebola outbreak in Nimba county, this is the first incident of dead victims resurrecting. Nimba county's Assistant Superintendent for Development Teko Yorla has disclosed that there are currently 199 confirmed, suspected and probable Ebola cases of Ebola in the county. According to Superintendent Yorla, about 50 Ebola deaths have occurred in the county since the outbreak of the deadly virus.

Somali Militants Stone Woman To Death Over Adultery

Somali al Shabaab militants stoned a woman to death in the southern town of Barawe on Friday after a court they had set up declared her guilty of adultery, the militants and witnesses said.<br />

The group, which pledges loyalty to al Qaeda, has waged an armed campaign to impose its strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law. Forced out of many areas of the east African country by African Union forces and the Somali army, al Shabaab is keen to show it has authority over areas it still controls.<br />

Hundreds gathered to watch the killing of Safia Ahmed Jimale in an open field. The 33-year old mother was buried up to her shoulders and pelted with stones by masked al Shabaab fighters and local men. Some in the audience vomited, said resident Ahmed Abdullahi, who was in the crowd.<br />
<br />
The killing was witnessed by the al Shabaab governor for the region. Her body was then dug out of the ground and carried away for funeral prayers, Abdullahi said. A man who presented himself as an al Shabaab judge said Jimale had confessed to having three husbands.<br />
He said the three men were not aware they were married to the same woman and had testified against her. Courts set up by the militants do not allow legal representation or appeals. Jimale's family could not be reached for comment. Islamic practice in many Muslim countries permits a woman to have only one husband but a man can have as many as four wives.<br />
<br />
Al Shabaab has banned many aspects of modern life and ordered executions, floggings and amputations for crimes such as theft. Its fighters has been harrying the government in the capital Mogadishu with a series of hit-and-run style gun and grenade attacks in recent years, following huge losses of territory.<br />

Growing up I remember I never used to care to know my mother tongue. Nobody ever talked to me in my mother tongue, other than went I went to upcountry shaggz as we digitals name it.<br />

Speaking in mother tongue was unheard of and it never occurred to me that I should learn it because I never saw its importance.<br />
<br />
Back in primary school we had a bone-monto which was a punishment for speaking Kiswahili.I never associated me being part of a tribe other than my non English names.<br />
<br />
When children continue to develop their abilities in two or more languages throughout their primary school years, they gain a deeper understanding of language and how to use it effectively.<br />
<br />
They have more practice in processing language, especially when they develop literacy in both, and they are able to compare and contrast the ways in which their two languages organize reality.<br />
<br />
More than 150 research studies conducted during the past 35 years strongly support what Goethe, the German philosopher, once said: The person who knows only one language does not truly know that language. The research suggests that bilingual children may also develop more flexibility in their thinking as a result of processing information through two different languages.<br />
<br />
Fast forward to the present I don’t know my mother tongue I already graduated from university and am working then I realize that my mother tongue is important, not important but very important as a grown up.<br />
<br />
Everywhere I go I am haunted by not knowing my mother tongue.<br />
<br />
It’s still a surprise to many when they speak to me and I cannot reply in my mother tongue only I the two official languages,mostly they think am pretending.<br />
<br />
Recently I went to upcountry for our reunion, and a friend of my grandmother started asking how I was fairing on, I replied in Kiswahili I remember the shock on her face as was like, until now you have never learnt your mother tongue. I said no and was greatly embarrassed among my relatives.<br />
<br />
That incident got me thinking how many of my friends know their  mother tongue, I was shocked most know. I used to console myself that us Nairobians we are many who don’t know but I realized we are few.<br />
<br />
Another interesting incident occurred I was buying a coat, when I heard the sellers conversing in my tribe I decided to negotiate in it.<br />
<br />
They dismissed in a friendly way saying why are you pretending and you don’t belong to us. I told them I do and said my shaggz to confirm it.<br />
<br />
One just exclaimed’I can never marry  such a lady who doesn’t know her mother tongue,if I was to take her to my mother how would she express herself?’<br />
<br />
From my life experience I have come to know the importance of my tribe and mother tongue more. Those who don’t are treated as outsiders because they will not take part in conversations.<br />
<br />
They only observe the rest. I am referred to a Nairobian or half tribe with my friends it’s like I don’t have an origin as a name that does not signify anything.<br />
<br />
I may be willing to be taught but as the old adage goes you can’t teach an old dog new tricks it’s so true to humans its harder to learn a new language if there is no exam at the end to the course and my career does not depend on it.<br />
<br />
Most people take the issue lightly, I always laugh and brush it off but deep down it disturbs me because I know am missing out on something in my life and part of my culture.<br />
<br />
I can’t blame anyone other than myself because if I really wanted I could have learnt earlier.<br />
<br />
The lesson that you can take from my experience is parents should teach their children the importance of their culture and mother tongue, from an early age it’s not safe to assume it’s a natural step that they will learn from others.<br />
<br />
Research has proven children who come to school with a solid foundation in their mother tongue develop stronger literacy abilities in the school language. Children's knowledge and skills transfer across languages from the mother tongue they have learned in the home to the school language.<br />
<br />
Bilingual children perform better in school when the school effectively teaches the mother tongue and, where appropriate, develops literacy in that language.<br />
<br />
By contrast, when children are encouraged to reject their mother tongue and, consequently, its development stagnates, their personal and conceptual foundation for learning is undermined.<br />
<br />
From my own research most of my peers would not marry a lady from their tribe who doesnot  know her mother tongue, is it fair?

A study carried out among 1,000 women found a substantial percentage have managed to keep another man waiting patiently in the wings should they end up single. And, worryingly, married women are more likely have a Plan B in the background than those who are merely in a relationship. It also emerged the Plan B is likely to be an ‘old friend’ who has always had feelings for the woman in question.<br />
But other candidates are an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband, a colleague or someone who they have met at the gym.<br />

ARUSHA, TANZANIA: Trade unions in the region have called for enabling of workers to move freely and reside within East Africa Community states in a bid to address unemployment.<br />

Speaking in Arusha Tuesday, Chairman the East African Trade Union Confederation ( EATUC) Francis said enabling workers to move freely and work anywhere within the region remained the critical first step in addressing unemployment problems and spreading the benefit of spreading skilled labour among partner states. Atwoli urged individual unions from Kenya, Tanzania (mainaland), Zanzibar and Uganda to commit to ensuring that many hindrances to labour mobility are overcome.<br />
<br />
The EATUC chairman faulted EAC’s Common Market protocol ratified in 2010 for restricting free movement of labour within the region. “The protocol prohibits students from other partner states from engaging in employment in the host country except internships and industrial attachment which is against the principle of non-discrimination.” Atwoli said. EATUC said it will lobby EAC summit, which brings together all presidents of member states with a hope that the community will implement its request.<br />

Kwale residents were treated to a rare spectacle on Monday when an elderly man whipped Opposition Leader Raila Odinga during an Okoa Kenya rally at Kinango grounds.   The incident which is now trending online has sparked response from users who have posted various reactions to that effect. Many hilarious photos depicting the former Prime Minister with a swollen eye are doing rounds on the various social media platforms.<br />

The man, who police later released after establishing he was mentally unstable, also turned his cane on Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya as the leaders were enjoying the coastal sengenya dance with traditional dancers. The CORD leader and Kwale Governor both received a stroke each on their back which some online users now refer to as ‘Kiboko Haram’. With some online users claimimng that the old man is a member of the terror group 'KIBOKO HARAM' Security officers were able to restrain the angry man as the leaders stood in bewildermen<br />

The event was part of the Coalition for reforms and Democracy's push for a referendum through which it hopes to open up the Constitution to amendments, in Kinango, Kwale County.  Yesterday evening, police confirmed they had released the man but failed to state why police were not at the function. The attacker, who was dressed in grey shorts, a white T-shirt and slippers, was restrained by private security personnel who handed him over to the police. Eyewitnesses said the man was unhappy because his wife was dancing 'suggestively'.<br />

A woman who had been raped pleaded for help from a passer-by, only to be told: "I'm going to do the same thing to you," a court heard. The 31-year-old victim had just been attacked by Nicholas Isaac, 17, as she walked home in New York at 5am on August 31, prosecutors allege.<br />

As the woman tried to get home, she saw Daquan Jackson, 20, and asked for help, but he raped her again, a court hearing in Brooklyn was told.<br />
It is believed the woman was walking home from a bar called One Last Shag when she was bear-hugged by a man who then slammed her to the ground. He threatened to shoot her and fled with her purse after the attack, it is alleged. According to the New York Post, the 'dazed' woman staggered 500ft when she was set upon once again.<br />
It is claimed the alleged attackers pushed the woman to the ground and threatened to shoot her if she did not do as they said. Although it is said no gun was produced. It is suspected the two men were working together.<br />

There was drama at an Okoa Kenya rally in Kinango, Kwale yesterday, after an elderly man hit former Prime Minister Raila Odinga with a cane twice.<br />
<br />
Together with Kwale governor Salim Mvurya, Raila had just joined the traditional dancers when the man dressed in a grey trouser and a white t-shirt attacked them and hit them with his stick.<br />
<br />
Apparently, it was because they were dancing with his wife, who among the traditional dancers.<br />
<br />
Bodyguards for both Raila and Mvurya were nowhere in sight as their bosses were being punished. It was actually Kwale county publicity officer Omar Mwagao, who wrestled the man to the ground and grabbed the stick from him.<br />
<br />
The man was handed to the police, but Kinango AP commander refused to detain him saying he is known to be mentally ill.<br />
<br />
This is just the latest in a string of drama in political meetings. It started in Migori where President Uhuru was heckled and shoes thrown to the dias. Ndia MP was a few days later attacked with a panga by a reportedly mentally ill man. This one was not as lucky, as he was shot dead.<br />
<br />
There is also the case of a mentally ill man who attacked officers at Central Police Station last week before he was shot dead.<br />
<br />
With these incidents, perhaps it’s time our police acquire tasers, which will cease ending the lives of mentally challenged attackers.

Nairobi; Kenya: The Independenmt Election and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) has come out battling  criticism of its performance questioned by a section of media reports. The acting Chief Executive Officer  and secretary to the commission Ms Betty Nyabuto sent a clarification statement to media houses early Monday morning rebutting the critics.<br />
The Commission has clarified that it hired external auditors to evaluate its performance and was within timelines in trying to gauge its handling to the March 2013 General Election. The clarifications come against a background of a raft of proposlas to separate electiosn for presidential race from those parliamentary and county positions. Here is the 10-point clarification from IEBC:<br />
<br />
1. Post-election evaluation is an integral component of an electoral cycle and is a best practice for any forward-looking Electoral Management Body (EMB).<br />
<br />
2. Following the March 4, 2013 General Elections, post-election evaluation has been on-going and is yet to be finalized. This is within the timelines set out by international best practices which require post-election evaluation to be carried out 15 to 25 months after the elections.<br />
<br />
3. The Commission allowed for external audit of the voters register by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Institute for Education in Democracy (IED).<br />
<br />
 4.  IED concluded that the Voters Register used in the 2013 General Elections largely met international standards for an accurate, complete and up-to-date register. The IED audit found the voter register to be 99.1per cent accurate while IEBC had its accuracy at 99.8 per cent.<br />
<br />
5.  In the 2013 General Elections, the Commission used one Principal Voters Register (comprising of voters with biometrics and without biometrics). It was accurate, complete and reliable. See also: County governments set to access external loans<br />
<br />
6. Allegations that the Commission did not know the number of voters registered are completely false. As at the time of going to elections, the number was 14,338,781 and well known to the Commission.<br />
<br />
 7.  In the meantime the Commission will publish on its website all the evaluations done by independent third parties on Electronic Voter Identification Devices (EVID), the Results Transmission System (RTS), Biometric Voter Identification (BVR) and the procurement processes undertaken in relation to the General Elections.<br />
<br />
8. The Commission has never asked for a Commission of Inquiry into the Results Transmission System.<br />
<br />
 9.  The sentiments captured by sections of the media are drawn from the various internal and external post-election evaluation stakeholders forums organized by the Commission. They are deemed to be individual views, opinions, complaints and matters canvassed during election petitions which are not necessarily factual.<br />
<br />
10.  The Commission will publish and disseminate the final post elections evaluation report to all its stakeholders including media, after incorporating the input and comments from all the post elections stakeholders’ forums held.<br />

In 2007, she openly snubbed Tony at a Go Down function, while in 2008, after he had given a brilliant reading at the Sunday Salon session in Kengele’s Lavington, Shailja complained Kwani we had a ‘drunk’ artiste. “Finally, on the Friday of July 17, 2009, Smitta in his Scene@ column (Pulse Magazine) had a humorous crack at her about their beef and her stiff approach to life and poetry.<br />
I believe it is this malice that has led her to tell bitter lies everywhere against Smitta,” Sharon claimed.<br />

The political temperatures have risen as some governors and Opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga separately push for a referendum with President Uhuru Kenyatta's ruling Jubilee coalition terming the move a waste of time and a political gimmick devised by losers to remain relevant.<br />
<br />
The high stakes game of violent politics with shades of blackmail, political zoning, outright incitement and belligerence and even gunfights and scuffles has already made the authorities worried. The return of political turbulence comes at a time when the statutory body required to check politicians' utterances is still grappling with a shaky transition and queries about its independence.<br />
<br />
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission, hitherto the monitoring agency for hate politics in Kenya, is in limbo as its newly-appointed leader does not have the legal authority to tame the politicians and enforce cohesion. His team is also yet to be sworn in, although this may be done this week, according to Government sources.<br />
<br />
 Yesterday, Francis Kaparo indicated he will be sworn in next Monday but said he said he was worried with the trend of violence in politics. He pledged to take a firm position as soon as he gets all the power to tame hate-speech and spearhead national cohesion.<br />
The spotlight has now shifted to the police officers who have failed to stop the violence that to date has been reported in political meetings in Migori (which took place in the presence of the President), Machakos, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Makueni, Narok, Marsabit and Isiolo counties.<br />

At the weekend, armed police stopped youths who wanted to disrupt a pro-referendum rally in Nakuru County led by the chair of the Council of Governors Isaac Ruto and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. Their handling of the Mpeketoni killings – the quick arrest of Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, rushed charges in court, and finally an acquittal for flimsy evidence — heightened political overtones in Coast region. However, yesterday, the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo talked tough regarding the political violence and promised to crack down on all the law breakers.<br />

NAIROBI, KENYA: Price inflation in Kenya fell to 6.60 percent in the year to September from 8.36 percent in the previous month, the statistics office said on Monday, making it less likely that the central bank will lift interest rates in coming months. The year-on-year inflation rate came in within the central bank's preferred medium term range of 2.5 to 7.5 percent and also below the Reuters consensus forecast of 7.24 percent. Analysts had predicted the rate could come down on the back of base effects because there had been a jump in the price of most commodities in September last year due to a new sales tax. The central bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) held its key lending rate at 8.50 percent earlier this month, saying there was no fundamental pressure on inflation even though it had risen to 8.36 percent, its highest level since June 2012. The central bank is due to meet again in November but the decline in inflation makes it more likely that it will hold interest rates in steady in the coming months. "I think it validates the MPC's decision not to do anything the last time round and not to be panicked into a decision. I think the sharp fall in the rate of inflation is all about the price of oil and I think the MPC had visibility on that forward price," said Aly Khan Satchu, independent analyst. "I think the MPC will do nothing through the year. There will be no change throughout 2014." The statistics office said the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels' price index fell last month by 0.52 percent due to lower costs for kerosene and electricity.<br />

A few months ago, socialite Vera Sidika shocked Kenyans and the world at large when she confidently bleached and came out defending herself. She made headlines even on CNN and BBC with headlines such as “Bleached Beauty” trending World Wide because of our very own Vera!<br />

We were among the first few people who came out strongly against her bleaching and the kind of morals she is portraying and showing our young girls. So, to those who don’t know how Vera bleached, this is how she did it:<br />

Vera Sidika, being broke and living the “Fake it Till you Make it…and Make sure you are not Caught Faking it before you make it” life went for CHEAP Plastic Surgery from a Certain Dr. Abdullahi Aden, a doctor at Karen Hospital, who also did her Breast implants after the surgery. Vera did not have enough cash to do proper plastic surgery (The Lil Kim, MJ type) so she got cheap “River Road” injections from Dr. Aden.<br />

From a very close Doctor friend of mine, I learnt that the injections are normally taken in a span of 8 to 15 months for you to get the desired looks with minimal or no effects at all. Vera wanting it all PAP!..She took an Year’s worth of injection in just one week..Yes! One week, which made her transform from “Omo” to “Persil” in just “One Wash”.<br />

But as we predicted, the type of bleaching she did would definitely have side effects. What the injections do is that they kill your skin pigment (Melanin) making your dark skin turn white since there is no more melanin to give your skin its color.<br />

A little over two months now since Vera OVER Bleached, the effects have started being felt. Vera has since been in hiding because of shame as she now looks UGLY and close to an Albino. She has stopped posted updated pictures of herself on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter but we were able (As Usual) to get Exclusive pictures of how Vera now looks.<br />

It is very sad that the Ebola Cure is said to only work on white people. Africans, especially in Liberia are dying each and every day .The story of Ebola seems to have been forgotten by most of us. The reality is that people are still watching their loved ones die each day, because we have not yet received news that the deadly Ebola has been eradicated. The Fact: People are still dying. Fortunately some missionary white doctors who volunteered to go help out people infected by the deadly virus were cured in their home countries.<br />

It is now said that the cure only works on white people!!! Why did the inventors of this cure just choose on the white people??? Is that not racial discrimination and one of the saddest things you can do to ailing people??? Just imagine, people are dying in their beds knowing that there are some people somewhere who have been cured??? They crave to be cured but it just can’t work on them….<br />

If these white people want to really help the Africans, then they should invent a cure that can work on the Africans. My question is it possible for them to do this????? We Africans have been seen and termed as the Dark Continent full of all evil/bad things that cause death. Basically, some nations see no life in Africa. But truly, this is not the case. We can’t deny that it is unfortunate that this disease-Ebola was first discovered in Africa, but I believe that where you find some of the worst things is where you can also get the best things.<br />
<br />
I think it is time for Africa to unite, work together and see how we can help our brothers and sisters who are suffering and dying each day. It’s time that we take charge of what is ours and only work with those nations who see the best in Africa and not the worst.
